    Georgia Department of Labor

    On Wednesday, April 22, the Georgia Department of Labor published an update of the Federal Stimulus Bill that explained available unemployment benefits issued as a result of COVID-19. Read more here

    Governor Kemp Updates Georgians on COVID-19

    On Monday, April 20, Governor Brian P. Kemp provided an update on COVID-19 in Georgia. Governor Kemp was joined by Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan, Speaker David Ralston, Georgia National Guard Adjutant General Tom Carden, Georgia Department of Public Health Commissioner Kathleen Toomey, and GEMA/HS Director Homer Bryson. Read more here. 

    Georgia Begins Reopening the Economy

    On April 20, 2020, the offices of Governor Brian Kemp, Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan and Speaker David Ralston, announced Phase I for the prudent reopening of the state’s economy which continues to prioritize the health and safety of Georgia citizens. While further details and guidance are forthcoming from the state’s leadership, the Georgia Chamber has compiled pertinent information for all businesses to consider as plans are developed to get back to work.  Read more here.

    Economic Income Payments Are Coming

    Beginning Monday, April 13, eligible taxpayers will receive an Economic Impact Payment (EIP), also known as a stimulus payment, as part of the $2 trillion CARES Act relief bill. According to the IRS, this means most taxpayers should receive either a direct deposit beginning April 15, or a paper check beginning in May. The IRS has published helpful information here.

    Georgia Department of Labor Announces Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA)

    On April 13, the Georgia Department of Labor made important announcements about unemployment assistance, especially the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) Program, which provides benefits to those previously excluded.  Read more here. 

    UGA Archway Partnership Presents COVID-19 Resource Guide

    The University of Georgia Archway Partnership has developed and is sharing a thirty-two page resource guide containing a wealth of information on COVID-19. Click here to view and/or print the document.

    State of Georgia Shelter In Place

    Governor Kemp has extended the “shelter in place” order through April 30. He also has signed an executive order suspending short-term vacation rentals across the state through the end of April. This order does not include hotels, including extended stay hotels, motels, campgrounds, or purely commercial transactions. This order does not include any vacation rental which was contracted and paid before April 9.  It also does not apply to leases for property to be used as someone’s primary place of residence.

    State of Emergency for Georgia Extended

    Governor Brian P. Kemp, Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan, and House Speaker David Ralston announced plans to extend Georgia’s public health state of emergency through May 13, 2020 to fight COVID-19 and flatten the curve.
