SUMMARY:HAC Black History Month Exhibits "Brown/Fairview Afro-American School " & Ashley Hosey Paintings and Photography
DESCRIPTION:For the HAC's Black History Month exhibits we will turn part of the galleries into an exhibit of history from January 24 until February 15. The E. S. Brown/Fairview Afro-American school of Cave Spring served its community from 1925 – 1968. Most of the school buildings were demolished at that time but a need to preserve the school's history lives on in its curator\, Joyce Perdue-Smith.\n\nMr Ashley Hosey\, painter/photographer will also be showing his work based on an expedition to Africa.\n\nAshley Hosey is a graduate of UGA where he was an art student. Upon graduation\, he began a career in education\, working primarily with at-risk students\, while continuing to paint for his personal enjoyment. In 2004\, he was a participant in a Fulbright-Hayes Group Study Abroad\, spending five weeks in Ghana and Mali. When he returned\, he painted a number of works inspired by his experiences in West Africa. He has also written a book of poetry\, The Warrior's Psalms. He has continued to seek advanced degrees in educational administration and leadership\, and he is currently the principal of South Cobb High School.\n\nThe exhibit will run from January 23 – February 15\, Admission is FREE.
