    Organization:  Blue Ridge Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit charitable organization based in Rome, Georgia.  Blue Ridge AHEC is a partner with the Georgia Statewide AHEC Network, a partnership coordinated by Augusta University.  Our mission is to support the recruitment, education, training and retention of a diverse health professions workforce in the 20-county northwest Georgia region.


    Job Summary:  The Health Education Coordinator serves as an energetic, creative liaison with secondary schools (grades 6-12) throughout the 20-county northwest Georgia service area, with the goal of educating students about careers in the healthcare industry.  This entry-level position assists in creating a “pipeline” of students who will pursue careers in healthcare, particularly in rural areas.  The Health Education Coordinator also supports Blue Ridge AHEC programs for students in advanced health professions degree programs as they undergo their clinical training, as well as existing health professionals through continuing education programs (CE/CME).

    Minimum Job Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in Education or Healthcare-related major is required.


    Minimum Experience:  Previous experience working in a secondary education setting (grades 6-12) or healthcare setting is required.  Experience teaching/assisting in the classroom and/or knowledge of various healthcare professions is very beneficial.

    Skills Required:  Excellent communication and presentation skills, both oral and written; excellent administrative and organizational skills; good leadership skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office™ (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher).  Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud™ or social media content design is desirable.  Experience with SalesForce™ software is a plus.

    Work Environment:  Pleasant inside office environment with frequent external travel.  Lifting, pushing or pulling 25lbs. or equivalent required, on flat surface and on stairs.  Moderate mental concentration or stress.  Applicant must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel to all areas within the Blue Ridge AHEC 20 county region and outside of it, as necessary.  Must also be able to work occasional evening/weekend hours for special events. Masks may be required for external events and meetings, per CDC guidance.  COVID Vaccination highly recommended.


    Primary Tasks and Responsibilities:  

    •    Develop plans for the on-going provision of health career recruitment programs in the Blue Ridge AHEC region with a focus on students and youth in rural and medically underserved areas.

    •    Establish and maintain effective working relationships with secondary schools throughout northwest Georgia, including administrators, middle/high school Health Sciences instructors, HOSA advisors, CTAE coordinators and guidance counselors.

    •    Visit schools across the region on a regular basis, to disseminate health careers information, provide career counseling, and provide support services for instructors.

    •    Attend annual conferences and meetings, including Georgia AHEC, HOSA, HSTEA and GACTE (typically 3-4 days and nights per event, outside NW Georgia).

    •    Distribute Health Careers in Georgia manuals and bookmarks to instructors, guidance counselors and students.

    •    Represent Blue Ridge AHEC at College and Career Fairs and Teen Maze events across northwest Georgia. 

    •    Coordinate/assist with production of educational videos about health careers, functions and facilities.

    •    Assist in designing, developing, implementing and evaluating intensive health careers programs to include 9-month immersion programs, nursing/health careers camps and volunteer programs that foster the recruitment of youth and adults into health careers.

    •    Maintain timely documentation and reporting of activities, participants and outcomes for all health career recruitment programs.

    •    Market educational programming and services in various formats, including brochures, flyers, website announcements, e-newsletters, promotion at conferences, social media and other methods as appropriate.


    Secondary Tasks and Responsibilities:  

    •    Stay updated on basic knowledge of medical terminology and clinical procedures, such as phlebotomy, dissection, suturing.

    •    Support the Assistant Director with the AHEC Scholars Program, as needed.

    •    Develop working relationships with potential partners/co-sponsors of continuing education, including healthcare providers, healthcare professional organizations, health related businesses and federal, state and local agencies, for the purpose of delivering educational training programs for current health professionals in northwest Georgia.

    •    Assist with special programs/projects, as needed.

    •    Plan, coordinate, facilitate and/or assist with shared learning collaboratives, simulations, focus groups, or other community education events.

    •    Track students who have received support from Blue Ridge AHEC, as they progress through their education and healthcare career.

    •    Develop and maintain a speaker's inventory for Blue Ridge AHEC.

    •    Perform other duties as assigned.
