    Position/Title: Bilingual - Spanish speaking Parent Educator
    Position Type: Full Time-Salaried
    Reports To: Prevention Programs Supervisor
     
    Mission: The Family Resource Center of Gordon County is dedicated to helping families achieve parental resilience, social connections, concrete support in times of need, knowledge of parenting and child development, and social and emotional competence of children.

    Position Description: A certified parent educator implements the Parents as Teachers model, emphasizing parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting, and family well-being in their work with families and utilizing the Parents as Teachers Curriculum in a culturally sensitive way. The Parent Educator partners, facilitates, and reflects with families. This is accomplished by providing education through personal visits, group meetings, screening, and linkages to a network of resources for parents and children.

     Qualifications:

    • A bachelor’s in early childhood education, social work, health, psychology, or a related field is recommended (or equivalent degree in countries outside of the United States), or a two-year degree or 60 college hours in early childhood or a related field. Experience working with young children and/or parents. Parent educators' minimum education and experience level is at least a high school diploma or GED and two years of previous work experience with young children and/or parents.
    • Bilingual (Spanish/English) required
    • Attend Foundation and Model Implementation training for certification for children ages 0 to 3
    • Attend Foundational 2 training for certification for children ages 3 to 5.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (e.g., nonjudgmental, objective, reflective, empathic, patient, tactful)
    • Ability to establish rapport with families and empower them by building on their strengths
    • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
    • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated (often in the field)
    • Computer skills, including web browsing, e-mail, Internet, and word-processing
    • Must be able to work the occasional Saturday for Group Connections and have a flexible schedule for occasional evenings.
    • Must be able to utilize good time management.
    • Reliable vehicle- we do not transport, but work in the community. 

    Essential Functions:

    • Engage in recruitment activities in the community (as applicable)
    • Complete an initial and annual family-centered assessment with each family
    • Develop, monitor, and review goals with each family
    • Provide personal visits focused on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting, and family well-being (including planning, delivering, and documenting the visit)
    • Maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license and motor vehicle insurance.
    • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
    • Ability to work as an effective team member.

    Hours of Work and Location: 

    • This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week. Work will generally be completed Monday through Friday, between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, with some evenings and no more than one 4-hour Saturday per month.
    • Work is performed out in the community and at the Family Resource Center office.
    • There are training opportunities 2 times a year that require out-of-town travel with expenses paid.

    Salary and Benefits:

    • Salaried position: $37,440.00 per year
